A lot of my clients get pregnant, and still want to look good but don't know how. They end up wearing what is only comfortable, and forget about what makes them feel their inner radiance. Believe it or not, to feel good emotionally is hand in hand with looking good. I know, the last thing you care about during a pregnancy is your looks, but I am also here to tell you that it will make a huge difference in your energy level, your mental and emotional state and confidence.
Come with me on a shopping day with my client Jenn. She is 23 weeks into her pregnancy and has a 3 year old boy at home. I am honored that she got to take a day out of her busy mom schedule, to treat herself and have a girls retail therapy day at Fashion Island, Newport Beach. I picked Alice & Olivia for us, because they are known for their fun prints, and flirty dresses. Jenn is feminine, and loves a classic, yet versatile look she can wear comfortably. This brand has everything from special occasions, to daily street wear, lounge wear, and fun separates so you can mix and match into your wardrobe.
I hand selected some dresses with an empire waistline, fun prints, high low hemline, and even some stretchy knit separates she can wear now during her pregnancy, and even after the bun is out of the oven. The point is that you don't have to shop maternity, just because you're pregnant. Especially since after having a boy first, and now expecting a girl... Jenn is done and happy and does not plan on getting pregnant again. Which means, no more future pregnancies, meaning no need for maternity clothes!
We always buy things impulsively because we need them at the moment, but as soon as we don't, it the trash it goes! Btw, if you don't already do this, I highly recommend donating to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or if you're in Orange County, Laura's House. That way, it goes to a good cause and/ if you have friends or family you can give it to, that will be a way great way to get more wear out of the pieces, instead of going to waste. I thrift for myself and my clients all the time, and I find gems all the time! I just have a good eye and know what I am looking for. If you're interested, I offer a thrifting package for half my usual rate to promote this eco-friendly way to shop!
Now back on topic, one of my favorite looks I chose for Jenn is this black printed short dress with a cinched stretchy waist that has a beautiful fit and flare silhouette which totally hides the fact that Jenn is pregnant at all! I absolutely love the bohemian feel, with the billowy sleeves and stretchy open neckline so she has the option to wear it off the shoulders. So romantic for a date night out with her hubby.
Next look I chose for Jenn is a fun babydoll dress with a square neckline, empire waistline that gives her plenty of room to grow into her third trimester. It's fun, comfortable and super cute! I love the sea glass/turquoise color on her skin tone, and the silk cotton fabrication is very breathable and light weight so Jenn can stay nice and cool. The easy breezy movement of the dress makes this number a total winner. Perfect for a summer brunch by the beach, or even a picnic on the coast with some sunnies, a gingham blanket and an umbrella!
This next look I chose may be a shocking selection due to how fitted they are. But I picked a black knit tank and skirt set that's super stretchy and flattering on. Yes, this hugs her right now, but the fabric has lots of room to allow her to feel comfortable and held in. She can easily wear this set as separates after her pregnancy. I love the fact that she can pair this tank with jeans and sneaks, or the skirt with a cropped top and slides. Having basic staples like this is such an essential for your wardrobe, especially when they are great quality pieces like the ones you can find at Alice & Olivia.
Lastly, I picked these special occasion pieces for all the upcoming weddings she has coming up! The high low hemline of these two dresses helps with elongated Jenn's body since she's very petite. The way the black and white one has an A-line silhouette gives room for Jenn's belly and the red one has tiers of ruffles that distracts it. Best thing about all of these pieces, is that they are all pieces she can wear again once the baby is out.
I hope this helps you all with getting some ideas of how you can dress during your pregnancy. If you are finding yourself needing help looking for the right pieces, because shopping is the last thing you want to think about. Let me do what I am good at, and you just get to trust me and allow me to put on everything I choose for you so you can look beautiful and be comfortable at the same time! Most of all, you get to treat yourself! As you can tell in most of these photos, we get to have fun! Because shopping should be a fun and easy experience. You can surely expect that with me, your stylist Amy. Until next time, stay stylish my friends xx
